Lecture 2:- How to install Git windows
To install Git on Windows, follow these steps:
Download Git: Go to the official Git website: https://git-scm.com/ and click on the "Download for Windows" button. This will start the download of the Git installer.
Run the Installer: Once the download is complete, locate the downloaded file (typically named "Git-x.x.xx-x64.exe" for 64-bit systems or "Git-x.x.xx-x86.exe" for 32-bit systems) and double-click on it to run the installer.
Choose Installation Options: During the installation process, you'll be presented with several setup options. Here are some key configurations to consider:
- Select components: Leave the default options selected unless you have a specific reason to change them.
- Adjusting your PATH environment: Select "Git from the command line and also from 3rd-party software" to enable Git to be used in the Windows Command Prompt and other applications.
- Choosing the default editor: Select your preferred text editor or use the default option (usually Vim).
Start the Installation: Click on "Next" to proceed with the installation.
Adjusting the PATH environment (if not already done): If you did not choose the "Git from the command line and also from 3rd-party software" option during installation, you might need to manually add Git to your PATH environment variable. This allows you to use Git from the Windows Command Prompt. If you're not sure how to do this, it's usually best to select the option during installation.
Choose HTTPS Transport Backend (Optional): If you want to use HTTPS to connect to Git repositories (recommended), select "Use the OpenSSL library" during installation.
Configuring Line Endings (Optional): Git can handle line endings differently on Windows and Unix-based systems. For compatibility, it's often best to choose the "Checkout Windows-style, commit Unix-style line endings" option.
Choosing Terminal Emulator (Optional): If you're comfortable with the default terminal emulator (MinTTY), leave the option as it is. Otherwise, you can choose another terminal emulator like the Windows Command Prompt.
Complete the Installation: Click on "Install" to proceed with the installation. Once it's done, you should see a confirmation message indicating the successful installation of Git.
Verify the Installation: To check if Git has been installed correctly, open the Windows Command Prompt or any terminal emulator you selected during installation and type the following command:

git --versionIf installed correctly, it will display the installed Git version.
Congratulations! Git is now installed on your Windows system, and you can start using it for version control and collaboration on your projects.
