The splice()
function is a built-in JavaScript method that allows you to modify an array by removing or replacing existing elements, and/or adding new elements to the array.
The splice()
method can be called on an array and takes in three arguments:
Here is an example usage of splice()
:
javascriptCopy code
let myArray = ['apple', 'banana', 'orange', 'pear']; myArray.splice(1, 2, 'kiwi', 'grape'); console.log(myArray); // ['apple', 'kiwi', 'grape', 'pear']
In this example, splice()
is called on myArray
, starting at index 1 and removing two elements ('banana' and 'orange'). It then adds 'kiwi' and 'grape' to the array, resulting in the modified array ['apple', 'kiwi', 'grape', 'pear']
.
Note that splice()
modifies the original array in place and returns the removed elements as a new array. If no elements are removed, splice()
returns an empty array.
