Lecture 235:- Understanding Responses

HTTP response is a message sent by a server to a client to respond to an earlier request made by the client. The response contains a status code indicating whether the request was successful or not, headers providing further information about the response, and the message body that contains the actual response data.

The status code is a three-digit code indicating the status of the request. The first digit represents the category of the response:

• 1xx (Informational): The request was received, and the server is continuing to process it.
• 2xx (Successful): The request was successfully received, understood, and accepted.
• 3xx (Redirection): The request needs further action to be completed, such as following a redirect.
• 4xx (Client Error): The request contains bad syntax or cannot be fulfilled by the server.
• 5xx (Server Error): The server failed to fulfill a valid request.

Common status codes include:

• 200 OK: The request has succeeded.
• 201 Created: The request has been fulfilled, and a new resource has been created.
• 400 Bad Request: The request could not be understood or was missing required parameters.
• 401 Unauthorized: Authentication failed or user does not have permissions for the requested operation.
• 403 Forbidden: The client does not have access rights to the content, i.e., it is unauthorized.
• 404 Not Found: The requested resource could not be found.
• 500 Internal Server Error: The server encountered an unexpected condition that prevented it from fulfilling the request.
