To set the current authenticated user in a session-based authentication system using Passport.js, you can use the passport.serializeUser()
and passport.deserializeUser()
methods.
When a user is authenticated, their user object is passed to passport.serializeUser()
, where you can extract and save their unique identifier to the session. For example:
javascriptCopy code
passport.serializeUser((user, done) => {
done(null, user.id);
});
Then, when subsequent requests are made, Passport.js will deserialize the user object using the identifier stored in the session, and attach the deserialized user object to the req.user
property. You can do this using the passport.deserializeUser()
method. For example:
javascriptCopy code
passport.deserializeUser((id, done) => {
User.findById(id, (err, user) => {
done(err, user);
});
});
In this example, the findById()
method is used to fetch the user object from the database using the user ID stored in the session. Once the user object is fetched, it is passed to the done()
function, which attaches it to the req.user
property.
